Holy Mama Heartburn

Pregnancy bed rest heartburn has raised it’s viscious head. I’m a lover of all foods tex-mex, so naturally I recently dined upon Paula Deen’s taco soup, 2 McDonald’s breakfast burritos, and Fritos. I actually dipped my burritos in the taco soup for a sauce.   Yea, I hear you moms out there,  not smart.

One hour later. Holy Mama, I just triggered the worst case of heartburn in my life! My feast left me moaning, rolling on my side, and running to the bathroom all night long. Now, this injured stomach is on the lookout on how to avoid another heartburn attack.

The Cause. Lying in bed all day creates the perfect storm system for heart burn outbreak, n0t mention my enlarged uterus pressing upon my stomach. My doc cautioned me to beware those spicy, tasty, yummy foods I love, but some of us stubborn women have to learn lessons the hard way.

The Remedy. The next day, was my scheduled OB visit, and made some recommendations.  Here’s a list over-the-counter meds that work best for me.

Do you have any heartburn home remedies for to share?

Level 1 Heartburn – Uncomfortable burning sensation in your chest some of the time.

Stay away from heartburn causing foods. (see lists below).  Relieve symptoms with an antacid like Tums or Gaviscon.

Level 2 HeartburnUncomfortable burning sensation in your chest after consuming anything, including water.

Stay away from heartburn causing foods. (see offenders below) Take Zantac (ranitidine) 1 to 2 times a day.  Avoid mixing the antacid with Zantac.

Level 3 HeartburnPainful, burning sensation in your chest after consuming anything, including water. Leaves you moaning, lying on your side, begging the burning to stop.

Stay away from heartburn causing foods. (see offenders below) Take Prilosec.  Soak in the tub to relax.

Heartburn Offenders.  Spicy, highly seasoned foods. Fried or fatty foods, processed meats, chocolate, coffee, carbonated beverages, and mint.*
